| | New for Spring 2011 — Inspired by the beauty of a spring blossom, the sculptural Mobius fixtures combine flowing curves and sepals of forged steel to create a visually stunning interplay of light and shadow. The designers also took inspiration from a mathematical model of the same name — the Mobius strip. Mobius shades, like the strip, have two sides that become one. What appears to be the outside, becomes the inside and vice-versa. They are a celebration of continuous movement and create an alluring focal point at any time of the day.
Beyond their beauty, Mobius shades are also a celebration of practicality and innovation: - Made from non-woven spun fibers adhered to backings with a varnish finish, they are more durable and cleanable than many paper and fabric shades, and meet the necessary glow-wire tests for flammability.
- Frameless and wireless, they can be packed flat or rolled up and packaged and shipped much more efficiently, particularly as the shade increases in size.
- Because of the reduced costs associated with shipping/packaging, they are reasonable in cost, and present a high value to the consumer.
- The risk of shipping damage is also significantly reduced, an all too common occurrence with conventional shades.
- Installation of the shade is accomplished with simple mechanical fasteners and a spider with a “self-locking” washer which is held in the fixture by a socket ring.
- “Flat” shades are quite prevalent in higher-end European fixtures. Mobius shades are manufactured in Spain, by one of the largest and highest quality suppliers in Europe who also supply many high-end lighting manufacturers.
